Now that daylight saving time has ended, much of the country is getting used to far shorter days. This can be a hard time of year for many people, with the decreased daylight contributing to seasonal depression and feeling unsafe when coming home after dark. If you’re dreading the dark days of winter, check out our selection of smart home products. Smart light bulbs and cameras can help combat the winter blues by providing you with a greater control over your lighting options and the ability to monitor your home.

Control Your Home Lighting with Smart Light Bulbs

If you live alone, you may not feel safe returning home after dark. One of the many great features offered by smart light bulbs and smart plugs is the ability to turn lights on and off remotely via your phone or tablet. You can also set your lights to turn on or off according to a pre-programmed schedule, which is a great security feature for when you’re away at work or on vacation.

Smart light bulbs also allow you to control the hue of your home lighting by adjusting the bulb’s color temperature. Color temperature measures how closely the light emitted by a bulb resembles actual daylight and is measured in degrees Kelvin (K). Missing the sun on a particularly overcast day? Try setting your bulb to a cooler color temperature such as 4000K or 5000K that mimics natural daylight. Want a more relaxing atmosphere? Set your color temperature to a warmer option like 2700K. You can even gradually alter the brightness of your home lighting throughout the day from energizing daylight to warmer white light in the evening.

Many smart light bulbs, such as these Geeni Prisma Plus light bulbs, also provide you with a number of color-changing options. These different colors are great for stimulating a variety of moods. Blue, yellow and green colored lighting can help foster a sense of relaxation, while red light can create a warm ambiance ideal for socialization. Color-changing bulbs are also perfect for parties and holidays, allowing you to create the perfect atmosphere.

Smart Home Cameras Can Help You Feel Safer

Smart home cameras can also help you feel more secure during the winter months. If you worry about coming home after dark, smart cameras allow you to monitor your home, your yard and your front porch before you arrive. Many smart cameras, such as the Geeni Indoor/Outdoor Smart WiFi 1080p Camera, also contain motion detectors and will send alerts to your phone or other device when movement is detected near your home.

Other popular smart home cameras include the Geeni Wired 1080p Smart Home Doorbell Camera, which allows you to easily monitor deliveries and keep track of who’s at your front door. The Geeni Indoor Smart WiFi Enabled Camera is perfect for checking in on children, pets, nannies and elderly family members. Best of all, smart home cameras are competitively priced and don’t require monthly fees like with a traditional security system.

Smart light bulbs and cameras are an affordable, effective way to help you feel safer and happier during the dark days of winter.
