Did you know that your business can save significantly on its energy costs and maintenance time just by switching to more energy-efficient lighting? It’s true. LED light bulbs are the longest-lasting and most energy-efficient bulbs on the market today. They use roughly 80-85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last more than 10 years before they need to be replaced. That means significantly less time spent changing burned out bulbs. Even better, many utility companies offer rebate programs just for switching to more efficient lighting. These rebate dollars are rapidly changing though, with budgets under constant review, so there’s no guarantee these savings will be available next year. That’s why now is the best time to consider an LED retrofit for your business facilities.

What is an LED Retrofit?

At its simplest, retrofitting a lighting system involves converting the fixtures in your facility to accept more energy-efficient light bulbs. Many older fixtures were designed to specifically work with incandescent or other older bulbs. Plugging an LED bulb into an older fixture can potentially cause damage to your system’s ballasts and shorten the bulb’s overall lifespan. That’s why it’s important to retrofit your facility’s lighting system. Otherwise you simply won’t get the full range of benefits that comes from using LED light bulbs.

Businesses We’ve Helped in the Past

Let’s look at a few specific examples of businesses that have benefitted from our guidance and expertise. A local aircraft hangar in Waukesha, Wisconsin required a better solution for their lighting. Their original metal halide lighting featured long warm-up times and a short lamp life. We were able to help them transition to LED HID lighting, which dropped their overall energy consumption from 10278 kWh (kilowatt hours) to 2803 kWh.

Their new LED lighting also eliminated the problem of warm-up time and gave them an estimated annual energy savings of $823.00 with an approximate lifetime energy savings of $28,160.00. The hangar’s owner Bo had the following to say, “The LED HID lights Batteries Plus Bulbs recommended were a game changer when it comes to how much better our lighting is now!”

De Pere Middle School, located in Northeastern Wisconsin, wanted to change the lighting scheme in their gymnasium so that they could light half the gym at a time in order to reduce maintenance costs and utility consumption. We provided them with LED Linear High Bay lighting which brought their overall energy consumption down from 1597 kWh to 782 kWh.

This provided them with an estimated annual energy savings of $2,442.00 and an ROI payback of 3.2 years. Pat, the Director of Buildings and Grounds for the school said, “The new LED high bay fixtures will allow us to almost completely eliminate maintenance, allow the space to be illuminated in zones, and on top of both of those benefits, reduce our overall energy consumption. Batteries Plus Bulbs also assisted with local utility incentives to help off-set the cost of the investment.”
