Fall Night, Fall Bright

Lighting - by Jessica Carey - updated on 10/19/2012

As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, it is time to brighten your home with outdoor LED light bulbs. Once purely functional, outdoor lighting in residential areas is now also being used to accent home design. No matter what you're using it for, you need quality outdoor light that is both practical and attractive.

Why Outdoor Lights?

  • Illumination. This is pretty basic – when you come home at night, the last thing you want to do is fumble around and try to make it inside without hurting yourself. LED lights are a great option for clear, long-lasting, widespread light. With a light on your porch, driveway or walkway, finding the door won't be such a challenge.
  • Safety. Having bright lights outside may make an intruder less likely to choose your home. Plus, LED lights can also be rigged to a motion sensor to warn you in case of any unwanted guests. The light bulbs that would work best for outdoor safety are flood and spot lights.
  • Decorative. Due to their small size, decorative lights can be used in a variety of ways to add to the beauty of your house or garden. Strings of LED rope lights can be laced along pathways, on fences or concealed amidst the bushes. And don't forget about seasonal decor – you can use colored LED lights on your home's exterior for any holiday.

But, Why LED?

There are characteristics that make LED lights more suitable for outdoor use than incandescents. In addition to longer lifespans, cost savings and energy savings, LEDs are also more durable and vibration resistant.
