Summer is truly the best time of year, bringing sunny days and warmer temperatures. Unfortunately, summer is also prone to some pretty violent weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes and thunderstorms. Experts recommend that you have an emergency kit opens in new window on hand in case the power goes out. One of the most important things in your kit is a reliable source of lighting. What is the best emergency light? Here are eight lighting options perfect for your home emergency kit.

Emergency Flashlights

A good flashlight is a must-have for every home. The LuxPro LP600 Flashlight is a great place to start. This affordable LED flashlight features three different light modes (low, high & strobe) and a maximum output of 400 lumens.

Looking for something a little bit brighter? The NEBO Redline V features a light output of 500 lumens. It has an adjustable zoom and five different light modes (low, medium, high, strobe & SOS). Plus, it’s impact-resistant and completely waterproof. The Redline V is available in black or gray.

The NEBO Big Daddy is the ultimate flashlight for emergency situations. It puts out an incredible 2,000 lumens of brightness. The beam can be seen from as far away as 346 meters, making it a great way to signal for help. It’s also waterproof, impact-resistant and has five unique light modes (low, medium, high, strobe & beacon).

Emergency Hands-Free Lighting

In an emergency, you may require lighting that allows you the use of both your hands. A headlamp is an ideal solution for checking fuse boxes, working on vehicles and other tactile work. The Rechargeable Headlamp and Cap Light from NEBO has six light modes (low, medium, high, red, green & Turbo). It gives off a maximum output of 400 lumens and comes with both an adjustable head strap and a clip which lets you attach it to a ball cap.

A lantern is another great way to light your home while keeping your hands free for other tasks. What is the best lantern for power outages? We suggest the LuxPro LED lantern. This rechargeable lantern has a light output of up to 1,100 lumens, plus it’s O-ring sealed with a weatherproof IPX4 rating.

Looking for a simple way to light up the entire room? The Flipit400 is a portable, battery powered LED light that functions like a traditional light switch. Just affix it to any surface and flip the switch for a burst of bright light. It features both a low and high mode with a max brightness of 400 lumens.

Emergency Combination Lights

Can’t decide between a lantern and a flashlight? Pick up something that does a bit of both! The NEBO Poppy is a two-in-one flashlight and lantern combo. Simply extend the base to reveal a 300 lumen LED lantern. Then, push the base back in to use it as a 120 lumen spot light.

The Slyde Plus is another great option that can be used as either a 400 lumen flashlight or a 200 lumen work light. Operate it as you would any ordinary flashlight, then slide the handle open to reveal the work light. It has a 4x adjustable zoom and multiple light modes, including a flashing red light that can be used to signal for help. It even features a magnetic base which allows you to mount it to walls and other surfaces for hands-free illumination.

Emergency Alkaline Batteries

Now that we’ve given you a few lights to choose from, let’s talk batteries. Most of the lights mentioned above run on either AA or AAA alkaline batteries. Be sure you have an adequate supply of batteries in your emergency kit. Rayovac UltraPro batteries hold power for up to ten years in storage. Pick up a 24-pack of either AA and AAA batteries today. We also carry UltraPro bulk packs of C, D and 9V batteries.
