Brandon Boozer and his mother, Marietta Dennis, are proud franchisees of multiple Batteries Plus Bulbs stores. When researching businesses to own, Brandon and Marietta liked the idea of not having to come up with the big idea or as they call it, "reinvent the wheel." Brandon explains that many people want to own their own business but that it can be risky. The great part about franchising is that someone already has a working wheel, you just have to help make it roll faster. Brandon came across Batteries Plus, as the brand for formerly known, when his stepfather needed a battery for his laptop. The OEM battery from the manufacturer would cost $30 and take up to 30 days to arrive. That's when Brandon and his father went to Batteries Plus, and the store was able to rebuild the NiCad laptop battery in 15 minutes for only $12. Brandon first volunteered in another Batteries Plus in Phoenix before he officially signed to franchise one of his own stores in 2002. His business has now grown to 6 locations and a support warehouse, and his family has focused on giving back to the community. Some examples of their donations include 4,000 batteries to local fire departments, lighting projects for shelters and even donating flashlights and batteries to every elementary school teacher after a Tornado came through. Brandon believes it's about being available to those who need you. Read More opens in new window
