Batteries Plus Bulbs Celebrates National Battery Day: Survey Reveals How Music Gets Consumers Charged Up

PRESS RELEASE - 11/24/2014 - Formula PR

70 Percent of Respondents Say They Rely on a Music Playlist to Get Them Charged Up.

Americans have been getting a charge out of batteries for centuries. To recognize their impact on society in honor of National Battery Day, Batteries Plus Bulbs®, the nation's largest and fastest-growing battery and light bulb franchise, today announced the results of a nationwide survey that asked consumers how music gets them charged up. National Battery Day is an unofficial holiday that seeks to commemorate the birth of Italian physicist Alessandro Volta and his pioneering invention-the battery. Results of the survey, taken by nearly 400 consumers, found that music is essential for motivation and for getting "amped" up before doing an activity.

"Surprisingly, battery technology has done far more for civilization over the last two centuries than most people realize," said Russ Reynolds, CEO of Batteries Plus Bulbs. "While we took a fun approach to National Battery Day, this holiday represents the perfect time to remind consumers and businesses that batteries are an important part of everyday life. They serve a variety of purposes including keeping household items, personal electronics, vehicles and business devices powered up when we need them the most."

Key findings from the survey include:

  • If given the opportunity to create a music playlist with one band or singer, of the five choices given a majority of respondents said they would collaborate with 17-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist BeyoncĂ© (32 percent) and British classic rock legends Queen (30 percent). The least popular artist that consumers would want to create a playlist with was Kanye West, who received only 4 percent of total responses.
  • When asked what song is the most overhyped "pump up" song of all time, most respondents (40 percent) said "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, followed by Queen's "We Will Rock You" (27 percent), Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" (13 percent), Metallica's "Enter Sandman" (11 percent) and AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" (9 percent).
  • When asked which sport would get them more charged up to watch or play it if it had "pump-up" anthem, most respondents (39 percent) picked bowling. However, only seven percent of respondents said they would get a charge out of watching or playing chess-even with a "pump up" anthem.
  • While it didn't come as a surprise that most people rely on music to keep them charged up during a workout (40 percent), the next most popular response was that people rely on music to give them a lift and relieve stress after a rough day (23 percent).
  • 64 percent of respondents revealed that the car is the top place they most often sing their favorite songs to get charged up, followed by 13 percent of respondents who said they sing in the shower.
