Franchise Players: What This Franchisee Power Couple Has Learned in Two Decades of Entrepreneurship

In 1992, couple Susan and Dan Manwaring were both working jobs in corporate America while simultaneously having the desire to invest in a business opportunity together. They felt a franchise would be their best option due to the increased levels of support and training an owner can expect to receive vs. starting their own business from the ground up. However, they weren’t sure what franchise opportunity was right for them. After coming in contact with the founder of Batteries Plus and losing his job to a layoff, Dan knew that he had found the right franchise for him and his wife to pursue. In 1992, the Manwarings opened the first franchised Batteries Plus store. Since then, through savvy ownership practices and an attention to detail, the Manwarings have opened 14 stores and now span throughout the state of Indiana and most recently in Louisville, KY.
