In 2012, the first stage of the Energy Independence and Security Act went into effect which brought the production of many traditional incandescent bulbs to an end and ignited the beginning of a new era in lighting. The new types of bulbs: halogen, CFL, and LED, are considered to be at 25% more energy efficient and require 30% less electricity. To put that in perspective, if every American home replaced just one incandescent bulb with an “energy-efficient” one we would save enough energy to light 3 million homes for a year.
