Her Name Is Even Watts: Franchise Owners Says She’s Surprised Many by Making a Success of a Business That Sells Batteries and Light Bulbs

Jane Watts spent many years working as an electrician’s mate in the US Coast Guard. It was there that she developed a technical aptitude and an understanding of the important role batteries play in so many machines and devices. After completing her service, Watts worked for several manufacturing firms before deciding to branch out on her own. In 1997 she opened her first Batteries Plus Bulbs store along with her mother and partner June Riner. The team became the first all-female owned Batteries Plus franchise and almost two decades later they have grown into a three-store operation. Watts’ stores provide specialty service for local consumers as well as major corporations and local government offices. Recently the team moved their flagship store from Lawrenceville Highway to Shamrock Plaza, less than two miles away. The increase from 900-square feet to 2,400-square feet was necessary as they plan to expand by adding a larger assortment of light bulbs. Read More opens in new window
