All in the Family: Father and Son Build Batteries Plus Empire

Typical father-son activities include playing catch, fishing, or even going on a road trip, but the Criego’s aren’t typical. For Bill Criego and his son Mike, their activity of choice was to go into business together. In the 90s Bill was actively looking to get involved in owning a business when he came across a story about Batteries Plus in the Wall Street Journal. He was intrigued and after researching the company it wasn’t long after that Bill was opening the doors of his first store. At the time Mike was working as a pilot, but after 9/11 the industry crashed and he was out of work. Bill saw this as an opportunity for the two to work together. Bill mentored Mike for a time until he became acclimated to the business. Today, the two are full-fledged partners who own and operate 12 Batteries Plus Bulbs locations in Minnesota and North Dakota.
